Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation

Also known as SALC, this is a program to bolster acquisition and management of ag conservation easements efforts and to prepare the Tule Trust for Land Trust Alliance Certification.

The Sustainable Agricultural Lands Conservation (SALC) Easement Program is preparing the Trust for acquisition and management of agricultural conservation easements in the region through facilitation, as one method of providing a more balanced approach to long-term landscape planning and resource conservation in response to water resource limitations and economic resiliency.

The SALC program will provide a holistic approach to landscape resiliency in Tulare County, which is not yet met by existing programs that center on land repurposing.

The Trust Will:

1.  Develop land acquisition protocols (Parcel Analysis Record, [PAR])

2.  Build a business plan that lays out long-term operations and management models for SALC

3.  Assist in preparing the Trust for Land Trust Alliance Certification.

The Trust will increase its SALC outreach efforts, identify priority acquisitions, and better coordinate with GSA planning efforts.

Maintaining productive lands will ensure carbon continues to be captured through soil development and ongoing growth of living carbon sinks. This agricultural conservation mechanism is intended to assist with the region's SGMA transitioning and sustainability efforts. Encouraging and maintaining the region’s most productive and hydrologically sustainable lands benefits the entire region and State.
